Chancel Choir

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

Did you know the human voice is the only “perfect” instrument?  It was created by God himself.

Join us in leading the congregation in worship!  Chancel Choir sings every Sunday from Labor Day thru mid-June.  We rehearse Wednesday evenings at 7:30, and Sunday mornings at 9:30 (childcare available for 9:30 rehearsal).  We have no membership requirements other than a reliable commitment to attend most rehearsals.  You don't need a solo-quality voice, or any training in music.  You need only be receptive to learn and sing a part in tune.

Chancel Choir is directed by Brent Peterson.

Wesley Bell Choir

The Wesley Bell Choir, under the expert guidance of church member “Princess Becky” Combs, performs several times during the year including Christmas and Easter. Wesley Bell Choir is an important link to our community, continuing a long-running association with the annual Las Posadas festival at Mission San Jose. Membership is open to all ages by audition.

Our New Organ

Members, visitors, and friends at First Church cannot help but noticing our beautiful new Allen “Quantum Renaissance” organ!  This instrument recreates four separate organ schools (Neo-Baroque, French Romantic, English Cathedral, and American Classic) with breathtaking realism.  It is an exceptionally effective installation as well, and I will go out on a limb and say what I really think of this organ.  Having heard great organs all over the the US, England, and Germany (and even played a few of them) ... I will say that speaking only of beauty of sound, it is surpassed only by the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City;  First Congregational Church in Los Angeles;  Liverpool Cathedral;  and Westminster Cathedral in London (not to be confused with Westminster Abbey, whose organ does NOT measure up to this one).  Yes, I am speaking of our organ at First United Methodist Church, Fremont.  I hope you'll come out and give it a listen!

Dedication Recital

On Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 4:00 pm we will have an organ recital celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Fremont First Church. The concert will also serve as the Dedicatory Recital of our new organ.  I am planning music specific to the event … music written in 1958, the founding year of our church;  music written by the Wesleys, the founders of Methodism;  and even some music written specifically for our own congregation, by my composer son Tom Peterson (who has been accepted into the Royal College of Music in London for graduate study next year!)  Admission is free, with cookies and fellowship afterwards.  I hope you can come out and enjoy some good music.  And I truly appreciate your continued support for good music at FUMC.  And I especially thank you for the generous gifts which made this organ a reality at First Church!
